I must have gone silly!

That Developer Dad
2024-06-27

I introduce the new website, www.thatdeveloperdad.com, aimed at helping developers at any career stage by publicly sharing my learning process and mistakes. I hope this might help somebody overcome their impostor syndrome, even for a moment or two.

I’m replacing the content on the home page, but I don’t want to lose this. I’m converting it to a short article.

My career counselor is going to have an aneurysm. My peers likely think I’ve lost my marbles, and they’re probably right. [Edited to add: My wife thinks I’m completely out of my mind. She’s basically said so.]

This is my new website, www.thatdeveloperdad.com

“Why are you putting THAT forward as a representation of your skills!?!”

“Nobody’s going to take you seriously with that being the first impression!!”

Both of those statements are probably accurate.

But the current state of the website (and my brand) are only a small part of the story I’m telling.

I could have waited to launch this idea until I had everything in place and perfect. I could have waiting until it was all polished and pretty.

Doing so would have been a HUGE disservice to the community I’m hoping to reach.

The purpose of ThatDeveloperDad is to help people in the early stages of their career. By going through the learning and construction process IN PUBLIC, by making all the silly mistakes and learning from them IN PUBLIC, maybe… Just Maybe… I can save somebody the experience of debilitating impostor syndrome.

Software DOESN’T happen by magic, we’re not wizards. Let’s let people watch as it gets made. Let’s have a laugh together as I make all the silly little mistakes that we all make every day.

My Process IS the Content.

We are all, always Learning. Let’s figure it out together.
